Some typical guests' reviews:
"Good location, most things of interest in walking distance, relatively quiet and reasonably priced."
"We were very happy with the standard of the hotel. Excellent location near the seafront and centre, but on a quiet street with little traffic noise. The bed was uncomfortably firm but that apart the room was good. Soft drinks only in the minibar."
"We were very impressed with the friendliness of the staff. The buffet breakfast at E10 had plenty of choice. We think the superior rooms are well worth the extra in regards to size. We will certainly go there again on our next visit."
"A lovely small hotel. We booked a deluxe room and it was very clean, modern and spacious. We did not have breakfast. Hotel staff extremely pleasant and helpful. Only set back no coffee/tea making facilities in room. Would definitely stay there again."
"I was very impressed with the quality of the room for price compared to another similar, more expensive property I stayed at last year."
"A nice, simple, clean hotel. Excellent location on quiet street with easy access to plenty of good restaurants and beach. Good, helpful staff and small, but clean and efficient room."
"I am a first time user of venere where I found Hotel Cigales in Nice, reading these reviews. We had a great time in Nice, and the hotel was even better than what we expected and read about! I would recommend the hotel to anyone who wants to stay in a good hotel in Nice, at a nice location, for a reasonable price. The hotel was exceptionally clean and the staff were very friendly. The hotel is an excellent place to stay, very close to the sea, the casino and the happening places of Nice."
"Well located for the public beach. Very clean and comfortable rooms - although not huge. A very nice hotel - charming staff and very good about young children."
"The only problem is the parking: I think they should agree a price with the nearest private parking."
"The service was excellent. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. We were very impressed with the cleaniness and modern facilities. The hall area and guest room floors were a beautiful polished marble."
"Les Cigales is a bright and modern hotel which is well located near to the sea and the main shopping areas. Minor problem with sloping ceilings in some rooms, but rooms well appointed. Would cetainly recommend it to friends based on price and location and friendly staff."
"This was the nicest three star hotel that we stayed in on our trip throughout Europe. Clean, spacious and excellent staff made for an excellent stay. Highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Nice."
"We didn't take the Hotel's Breakfast as the local Cafe's & Bakery's were much better value. They hotel is nicely located, with several Restaurants, Bars & Cafes nearby, a late night shop around the corner (for water!), is not far from the Beach(!) & the Train Station & is a 25 min walk from the Old Town (Vieux Nice). Were very happy with the room (apart from the ceiling) & reasonably sized bathroom & the room was just the right temperature with the A/C. We did not have any problems with noise. Overall a reasonably priced room in a good location."
"Found this on Venere, I've read good reviews, so I've give it a try. They give you "immediate confirmation" on your reservation, good thing when Internet is full of useless web sites.
"Our stay at this hotel was excellent. The staff were very helpful and the rooms clean with all the required facilities. The location was convient not only for the beach but also for shops and restaurants. If you want a good reasonably priced 3 star hotel in Nice this is for you."
"Our stay was absolutely wonderful in this cosy hotel. We will recommend it to anybody who wants to visit Nice!"
"Completely new renovation!!! Awesome amenities! Great property with wonderful staff."
"I can highly recommend this hotel. It was extremely clean and staff were very helpful. It is in a good location for access to the railway station, beach, shopping and eating areas."
"Nice hotel, clean rooms, well placed with easy access to sea front and pedestrian area, we would use again."
"A great location between the station and the beach. The hotel was recently renovated so the rooms are very clean and comfortable. Helpful and friendly staff too!"
"We really loved our stay in Nice. The employees were very friendly and helpfully. We would stay here again. Nice is also a very lovely town."
"We were 6 nights in the hotel during the carnival and enjoyed every minute. The manager Mr. Valentino was superb !!!"

Some typical guests' reviews:
"We wanted a cheap and cheerful hotel and this was it. Excellent location, close to town centre and near the seafront with wonderful views of the sea and gardens. Rooms were clean and breakfast was very nice with friendly staff. Drink making facilities in room would have been nice. If you want basic accommodation Hotel Albert is highly recommended!"
"Hotel was smaller than I had imagined from pictures. The room itself was small, but typical for Europe and for the price. A nice balcony opened up the room quite a bit, though, and the bathroom had a full tub and a showerhead. Upon arrival, the room was ready and very clean. The desk clerk spoke excellent English and was expecting us. I wouldn't bother with paying more for the ocean view at this hotel, as it doesn't actually have a side that directly faces the ocean! The location is hard to beat, however. The hotel is within spitting distance of the beach (50 yards?) and there is a wonderful park with a carousel right across the street. Breakfast was pretty good, but don't be fooled, it is not included in the price of the room and costs a hefty 11 euro per person. I would recommend this hotel to others, especially those who will appreciate a smaller, more "bed and breakfast" type place."
"Pleasant, friendly and helpful staff, room clean on arrival and kept very clean, but for a three star hotel it is rather seedy and knocked about. I have stayed in better one star hotels. The sea-view was not that apparent we could see the sea but with difficulty. I realise that Nice is more expensive than other parts of France, but a three star hotel in say, Brittany would have been a much grander standard."
"I found this to be a very lovely place to stay. Our ocean view room was very pretty and well maintained. I had a minor issue trying to get extra pillows (the pillows in the room were as flat as a crepe) from the staff, but they did end up coming through with them, although I got the feeling they didn't like it. The only other issue with the ocean view room was the noise from the street, which was very loud. Over all , for price and quality, I highly recommend Hotel Alber 1er."
"Because this hotel is located on a busy street, it is a little noiser, but the view to the Mediterranaen Sea was nice, as well as the park across the street. The front desk area is a bit crowded, but the people were very friendly. Nice location to Centreville."
"Acceptable price, good view location."
"A very reasonably priced hotel in an excellent location. Staff were friendly and courteous and the room was not large but adequate. Bathroom was quite ok and our stay there was pleasant enough. Would go back there if budget required it."

The French Riviera, or Cote d'Azur (Blue Coast) to use its French name, is again the fashionable hot spot of the rich and famous, chosen by celebrities like Robbie Williams, Donatella Versace, Kate Moss. It was originally the haunt of the English aristocracy, as remembered in names like that of Nice's world-famous seafront, the Promenade des Anglais. Provence, the region in the south of France, on the border with Italy, where the Cote d'Azur is located, is one of the most beautiful in France, not only for its coast and fashionable beaches, but also for its hilly countryside, dotted with ancient villages, which has inspired many artists, from Picasso to Cezanne to Peter Mayle.
The French Riviera, and Nice in particular, have many major art connections.
Nice's leafy suburb of Cimiez is also the site of an important jazz festival.
