Nice, French Riviera, recommended budget hotels
Normandie Hotel is a budget hotel in a good location in the heart of the city center, in the business and shopping district, a stone's throw from the central train station of Nice, close to the beach and the sea, 15 minutes walk to the old town.
A five floors building serviced by an elevator, the hotel is recommended in Frommers Guide to France.
It's been owned for the past decade by the Anquetil family, and the English speaking desk manager, Roger, originates from Argentina. A nice and friendly place to stay, whose cordial young proprietors offer lower rates in off season.
The hotel has easy access from airport by shuttle or city bus, and a private garage.
The 44 rooms have all been completely renovated. They are comfortable and quiet, cheerfully decorated in red, white, and blue.
All rooms have en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, double glazed windows, satellite TV with CNN, PRO7, TVE, RAI2 and domestic French TV, direct dial telephone.

Nouvel Hotel is a newly renovated, excellent value budget hotel right in the centre of Nice, few minutes' walk to the beach and the Promenade des Anglais, close to everything: the pedestrian streets, the shops, the department stores, the old town, restaurants and cafés.
Nouvel Hôtel, built in Belle Epoque style, is beautifully located on Boulevard Victor Hugo, and is 10 minutes' walk to the railway station.
There is underground public parking across the street from the hotel.
All rooms have en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, direct modem link, cable TV, pay TV, telephone, hairdryer, central heating, private safe box, and are comfortably furnished.

"Nouvel Hotel is a nice and small hotel. The staff at the Reception all helpful and friendly. The location is good as well, we always went back to the hotel at midnight, and lots of choices for eating nearby. You can almost go everywhere on foot, and there has a bus stop very close by."

Lafayette Hotel is a small, friendly very good value three stars hotel in the very heart of Nice, few steps from Place Masséna and the famous Galeries Lafayette of Paris, in an ideal position close to shopping areas, the Promenade des Anglais, the sea, the Old Town, Avenue Jean Medecin, and many other attractions of Nice, the capital city of the Côte d'Azur.
Hôtel Lafayette is 20 minutes' walk to the railway station.
There are 2 types of room: Standard & Spacious.

"We like the Lafayette. It is unpretentious, spacious, the staff are friendly. The rooms are fine and centrally located - ideal for the shopping areas of Nice but also not far from the Old Town and the beach. The bathrooms need a bit of updating, but are clean and things work. The bedrooms have plenty of space and it's nice to be able to stand on the little balcony and watch the world go by below. It's quiet, but in the centre. We'd go back because we know what we get and it's a reasonable price to pay for somewhere so convenient. The breakfasts are also good and inexpensive."

Comte de Nice Hotel is a charming, friendly, family-run very good value budget hotel, near all means of public transport, and close to many fine dining and shopping establishments.
The hotel is in a quiet, calm, provincial area in a central location, 5 minutes' walk to the train station, right near the main shopping street of Nice, which leads directly to the Promenade des Anglais, the pedestrian zone, the old town and the beach.
Nice's largest commercial avenue is a short walk from the hotel, and on it is a traditional daily market.
Hotel facilities include 24 hours reception desk with fax service, lift, private underground parking, nearby pay to park, coach parking, transportation to airport, concierge services, currency exchange, safety deposit boxes at reception, cots/cribs, high chairs, multi-lingual staff (speaking German, English, Italian), breakfast buffet.
Small pets are welcome.
The 50 rooms and apartments have fully-equipped en-suite bathroom, satellite colour television with international channels, direct dial telephone with automatic wake-up call.
Apartments, in addition to the above, have air conditioning, fully equipped kitchenette with microwave, refrigerator, utensils, etc, dining area, sound-proofing.

The hotel is very near (5 minutes) to the train station with good connection to Monte Carlo and to Nice airport by bus. The hotel itself you'll find in a quiet street. The staff has been very friendly, the room has been OK, clean and included a TVset (with German programes!) and bathtub, which has been perfect to relax after finishing the marathon. The only disadvantage has been the distance to the old city of Nice. It has been nearly 30 minutes by feet. But this wasn't the most important fact for me. In relation to the moderate price the hotel is nearly perfect."
"The hotel is appealing from the outside and in the foyer. The reception staff are excellent, both professional and friendly. The staff we encountered all spoke good English. We were given a choice of rooms - one was smaller but more modern, the other larger but not as modern. We chose the larger one. The room was comfortable with TV, desk, lounge chair and wasn't at all cramped. The bathroom was quite nice aswell. The room we chose wasn't modern but was well kept. They offer breakfast but we didn't choose to have it because it was more than we wanted to pay. It is not a 5-star hotel but is good value for money and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay."
