Some typical guests' reviews:
"I think it's a perfect hotel with perfect personel ( all very friendly people ) for people who don't want to spend much money for sleeping. It is situated right in the middle of Madrid. I went twice to the same hotel, that must say enough."
"The hotel fully lived up to our expectations : A budget hotel, clean and friendly, a good place to sleep. That was what we required."
"I was very pleasantly surprised at how clean & comfortable the hotel was. Very close to Gran Via Metro, the hotel is ideally situated, only a few steps from the Gran Via but in a fairly quiet side street. The wide entrance hall leads to a stairway & lift & is clean & the reception is on the first floor. The room was quite spacious & very clean (the interior photos don't do the hotel any justice!). There was very little noise from outside the hotel, (Double glasing windows inside the original windows). The safe is operated by €1 (Euro) coins. Breakfast was not included, but can be got for €3-5. Also there is a very nice juice bar around the corner. Madrid is a fantastic & very lively city & I would definitely recommend anyone to stay in this hotel as it is ideally located (Far enough away from the noisy area, but close enough to walk - about 5-10 mins). It is also excellent value for money."
"We had an excellent stay at the property, we were a bit taken a back at first look at the entrance to the building and lifts. But as soon as we got to hotel on the 2nd floor it was great accomodation. I think we got excellent value for money , the property was very central and there were lots of local tapas bars around which offer value for money food and drink."
"I would stay once more in this hostal, I felt quite comfortable!!"
"All personnel at the hotel were always curteous, friendly and very helpful. The rooms were spacious for our needs overall was well worth the money paid."
"Room very nice with an excellent cleanliness. The room was quiet and the hotel placed very near the city center (EXCELLENT POSITION)."
"Good conveniently located property."
"A french balcony with old fashioned shutters offers a view on a pleasant and busy square."
"Clean, tidy & friendly."
"Central located within steps of the Gran Via and within walking distance of most sights. All was very clean and functional. The Hostal is located in an area with many tapa bars and restaurants. Breakfast was also available at the hotel but there are numerous cafes nearby. There is also a corner store just a block away where you can purchase munchy food as well as bottled water at very reasonable prices rather than purchasing these items at the major sights. Given the overall high prices of accomodations in Madrid, I highly recommend this hostal for the great relationship between price and quality as well as location."
"Small, inexpensive, nice hotel in the very center of Madrid. A trendy chic part of the city. So if you want to shop and go out... Stay here. You'll have more money to spend."

General price range per room
Single & double rooms: 40 - 70 euros

Some typical guests' reviews:
"This small hotel was more than adequate for our needs in Madrid. It is in the heart of the downtown district close to shopping, a variety of restaurants, and history. Although the rooms were not large, they had a warm home-like feel to them. They were very clean with small, modern, private baths. There is no view of the city of Madrid from any of the rooms (we stayed here 2x) we saw, but we were out walking around in Madrid anyway and not spending much time in the room during the day. This inn is small but the rooms were quiet. In fact, we were able to sleep during our first day there after a long flight from the US with us suffering (naturally) with some jetlag. The staff was not chatty but we don't speak a great deal of Spanish so that was understandable. They were very helpful with dinner reservations. After staying the 1st night, we made reservations for 10 days later when we knew we were returning to Madrid for another day We will stay here again if in Madrid."
"Very secured Hostel in the centre, close to Metro, shopping, eating and Prado. Friendly service."
"Whilst this hotel is a little difficult to find, being situated on just one floor of a building and the sign outside is a little on the small side. However once inside, the hotel is very clean, the rooms are a little bit small but adequate. Breakfast should you require it, is taken in what during the summer, will be a rooftop terrace."
"Air conditioning was inadequate."
"This hotel is excellent located, right downtown, the rooms are not big enough, but they are comfortable in general aspects. I enjoyed my stay there. Thank you."
"This is an excellent place to stay. We were there for 16 days and they treated us perfectly. Cookie is a charming hostess and always keeps the rooms spotless. They were the most helpful!"

"Excellent site, friendly people, delicious breakfast. Thank you.I'm convinced of being there again. Best Regards."
"We had a great stay at Hotel Moderno. It has a superb location right in Puerta del Sol. The hotel employees were very friendly and went out of their way to see that we had everything we needed. They also have a really convenient shuttle service to the airport. Breakfast was awesome; their food is very high quality for a 3-star hotel. If I ever have to come back to Madrid I will stay at this hotel because even though the rates might look more expensive than other hotels, the service I got was unbeatable."
"We had a very nice holiday at Moderno, as its place was at the center of Madrid and we went all public areas by walking or by metro easily. Also all the staff was very friendly and helpful. We want especially to congratulate and thank the director of the hotel for his hospitality."
"The older management are not very friendly, and don't make you feel particularly welcome. The younger staff, however, spoke English and were much friendlier. The location is very good, but the best thing about this hotel was the lovely breakfast room with its friendly staff and excellent buffet breakfast, which was included."
"We traveled with our daughter and both rooms were fine, the location is excellent, the hotel is very safe, we would not hesitate to stay there again, but , the staff could be a little friendlier."
"Great breakfast buffet. Excellent location right of the Puerta Del Sol and close to Plaza Mayor. I would stay here again."
"Excellent beds--most comfortable we've stayed in while in Europe, and great bathrooms, especially the showers. We were not aware that the daylight savings time change was one week earlier in Spain than in the US. We did not know this until we asked on Sunday morning, already running an hour late to catch a plane. Would recommend a simple reminder upon check in--especially when the time is lost and not gained. (We did make our plane after a hair raising taxi ride to the airport.)"
"Clean hotel with helpful staff some speak English."
